Baby Boomer Ages? 47 to 65 in 2011

Baby boomer ages range from 47 to 65 as of 2011. The commonly accepted baby boomer generation are people born between 1946 and 1964. It extends from the year after World War II ended until basically the beginning of the social revolution of the 60s and the beginning of U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

There are baby boomers statistics that show this generation had the largest birthrate in recorded history; somewhere close to 80 million people. As of today, this comprises about 28% of the U.S. population. One of the big concerns right now is that as baby boomers age there will be a vacuum of active workers compared to now that will create both financial and human capacity shortages.

The characteristics of the baby boomer demographic are interesting. They were the teens and young ones of the 60s that brought about significant world-wide social change. They were the technology producers of the 80s that brought us into the Microchip age and they were the Yuppies of the 90s that redefined business and business efficiency.

As we enter the time of the retiring baby boomer, we will see these people draw on their independent spirit and establish new challenges to tackle. Yes, as the Baby Boomer ages there will probably be a shift in the labor force and there will probably be a number of baby boomer jobs available to those that want to work. And there may be a shortage in expertise to draw from for the additional need of increased baby boomer healthcare. But I predict the well known baby boomer characteristics of self reliance and desire to excel will rule the retirement years of the baby boomers. I believe these people will continue to work because they enjoy it, start new businesses, and continue to play a large part in politics and social change.

For those aging boomers that are reading this, plan plan plan for the future now. Stay fit, save for your retirement, and work on establishing those multiple streams of income that so many Wealth building experts discuss. You see I don’t think any of us can assume entitlement. I believe because of the current economic conditions of our great country we are continuing to expand on an economic house of cards. Stay as active and fit as possible, take care of your body and your mind, follow your passions and take advantage of technology to establish new revenue streams, live below your means and stay out of debt, and save responsibly for your retirement.

As the baby boomers retire in mass, I believe a new standard will be set in healthy aging. Between the active and healthy ideal baby boomers bring to the table and technology advances in Medicine, baby boomer statistics show WE are expected to live well into OUR mid 80s on average. This is greater than any generation before.

Our baby boomer ages right now are from 47 to 65. Watch out world, here WE come!
